Find a waterfall

When the beach gets too hot we head to the rivers to seek shade and cooler waters, the mists, the greenery the wildlife all add up to spectacular experiences, There are a dozen waterfalls nearby, some on the map, some closely held secrets, Go early enough and you may have it all to yourself!

Marina Ballena National Park

The Bahia Ballena Nacional Parque, 15 km of protected shoreline means no commercial fishing, no motor boats except tours. Save your ticket for the park as you may just want to return for sunset, a true spectacle with the surfers coming in, the village gathering for the end of the day, and nearby ice cream!

Bamboo Cathedral, Uvita

The cathedral like quality and cool shadiness of the bamboo forest is just the thing on a hot Uvita day, pick your way thru the jungle to the swimming hole, and you can swim against the river current for an all natural lap pool experience

Horseriding on the beach

Ride a horse on the beach at sunset, As far as romantic scenarios go it's tough to beat this activity on Playa Hermosa.

Scoot around

Rent a fully automatic scooter and cruise like a local. Our trusted vendor has 150cc that are great for exploring towns like Dominical or Ojochal, or up the mountain to see the famed Nayuaca waterfall.

Jungle Walk at Night

Feel like getting up close to tree frogs, snakes, bats and owls? This tour might be for you! Take a night walk in the jungle with a biologist. At dusk, you'll meet your guides and set off for a look at the dark side of the jungle. Minimum 4 people

Go see the whales

There are more hump back whales in Uvita than anywhere in the world, Why? well the southern population of Whales come from the Antarctic to have their babies then a few months later the arctic whales come down to this big bathtub to have their babies too. Several species of dolphin call this preserve their home too. A tour typically takes 3 hours and includes the entry to the next best thing to do in Uvita, a trip to the whales tale beach.

Traditional Tico Tour

Temezcal

A temazcal is a ceremony steeped in Mexican heritage. It involves participants sitting in a traditional sweat lodge for health and therapeutic benefits. Ceremonies usually last for two or more hours and are typically led by a sort of spiritual leader called a shaman or temazcalero. Ceremonies take place on an extraordinary farm in the valley of Tinamastes.

Learn to Surf

Take a surf lesson, or if that's not quite your thing, rent a boogie board. Whatever gets you into the sea, it’s all beautiful!

Its important to know that Uvita a great jumping off point for a little further afield. Day trips to Sierpe, Corcovado Park, Manuel Antonio Park, scuba diving or snorkeling at Cano Island Marine Preserve(Costa Rica is known as the least expensive place to qualify for your PADI). The sweet little surfer village of Dominical and it's little sister fishing village Dominicalito with its enchanting waterfalls and swimming hole are 20 short km away, Tinamaste and the Enchanted Valley are a day trippers dream drive, passing thru 7 microclimates in 10 km.
